Most people probably weren’t tuned in to FS1 last night what with Lebron putting on a show over on ABC and all. But if you were, you got to see the U.S. battle their way to a 2-1 victory over Ecuador. It was a grind it out game in which Clint Dempsey was responsible for all of the U.S. offense. He opened the scoring in the 21′ minute with this beautifully placed header.
Then in the second half he played this ball across goal (probably would have went in on its own) to Zardes who gave the U.S. a two goal advantage.
We ended up giving one back with about 15 minutes left in the match but were able to hold on for the win. Overall it was a methodical result that the U.S. was supposed to get. We now move on to the semis and this team has accomplished the goal that Klinsmann set for them before the Copa began. Unfortunately we will be going into that game without Bobby Wood, Alejandro Bedoya, and Jermaine Jones who will all be suspended due to their card situations. Unless Venezuela pulls a huge upset we are going to be facing off against Leo Messi and Argentina so our chances are slim to begin with. Missing three starters is going to hurt but hopefully this means Christian Pulisic finds his way on to the pitch. I swear to God, Jurgen better not start fucking Beckerman. If we can pull off the upset of Argentina the U.S. will finally have the signature win that has been eluding us since our 2nd place finish at the 2009 Confederations Cup.
